Edward J. Sanz, CFA
Senior Vice President
Ed Sanz has served as CFO and financial consultant to business owners, Boards of Directors and senior management for the past 25 years in the U.S. and abroad. In these executive-level roles, he has developed a proven track record for applying his creative, broad business acumen to helping companies overcome difficult operating and financial challenges. He has worked in a wide range of industries, including manufacturing, distribution, higher education, retail, printing, media, construction, non-profit, food, restaurant, service, telecom, real estate, software/technology, professional services and aviation.
An accomplished domestic and international finance manager, Ed has provided services to turnaround and corporate finance service firms in the southeast. He focuses on stabilizing and turning around troubled companies by improving cash flow, restructuring debt and returning them to sustainable profitability. This has also included strategic advisory work and related mergers and acquisitions processes. In these assignments, Ed has served as CRO and CFO, including a three-year expatriate assignment in Mexico for a $130 million (investment) start-up with 750 employees.
Ed also has significant experience working in South America, Europe and Africa. He recently led the highly successful turnaround of a 173-year old private college after a severe cash and leadership crisis. He also successfully led a creative wind-down and out-of-court liquidation process for a multi-location manufacturer, resulting in full recovery for the secured lender and significant realization for unsecured creditors. Ed also has banking experience as a commercial lender and project manager leading cross-functional teams on post-merger integration projects for a money center bank.
Ed received his Bachelor of Science in Commerce from the University of Virginia and his Masters in Business Administration with honors from Emory University. He also holds a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation. He is President of the Carolinas Chapter of the Turnaround Management Association and a member of the CFA Institute, CFA North Carolina Society and the Association for Corporate Growth. He serves on the Board of Junior Achievement of the Central Carolinas. He is a charter member of the Parras, Mexico chapter of Rotary International and is fluent in Spanish.
